Bio Information--Deadline Feb. 10

In order to be fair to the entire case we have very specific guidelines regarding
bios. The guidelines are as follows:

The maximum number of characters is 390, including spaces. The actor's name is in
bold followed by the role in ( ). Previous shows should always be in italics
followed by the role in ( ). (EX: Joe has previously appeared in A Christmas
Carol (Scrooge). NOT - Joe previously played Scrooge in A Christmas
Carol.) We will edit any bio that exceeds the maximum number of characters.

You may begin turning in your bios immediately. The deadline is Friday, February

German for Cat in the Hat

CAT (as Doctor Dake-in German)
"Tut tut!", sagt der docktor,
Diese gespra solche ist zu verrückt!
Ihr kleiner feder schwanz ist gerade richtig fur ihr vogel art!

Oh The Thinks You can Think Choreography

Please do not post these all over facebook. While I think you are all AMAZING, these are works in progress, and they do not look as good as they will on stage, with costumes, and after weeks of practice.

Rehearsal this week 1/23 - 1/28

Monday
Everyone is called
Mrs. Debbie will be doing music with all the Who's from 7:00 - 8:15. When Debbie is done, you will be running through Saturday's Choreography with your dance captains until 9:30. From 7:00 - 8:15, all jungle creatures will be working Saturday's choreography with your dance captains. Afterwards, you will work music with Mrs. Debbie till 9:30.

Tuesday
Everyone is called
You will be working Music with Mrs. Debbie. We will be working all Chorus numbers.

I also plan on giving out CD's of music to everyone today. Also, I will be giving out a $50 visa gift card to the person that I felt has the deepest and most imaginative Character Background.

Thursday
Mrs. Debbie will be working music with Wickershams and Bird girls. When she is working with one group, I will be working with the others. I would also like the Sour Kangaroo and Young Kangaroo Here for this.

Friday
Also, this week, we will have our second cast bonding event. We will be having a movie night at 6:00 pm where we will get together and watch "The Cat in the Hat" on DVD. The Casters's have graciously offered to host this event. Again, we will be asking everyone to bring money to cover the cost of food and drinks. If you were at the last event, you know how much fun it is. If you weren't, please come to this one. It will be a lot of fun. I hope that everyone is able to come.

Saturday
Everyone is called. We will be choreographing "How lucky you are" and the second reprise at the end of act 1. Everyone is in these. So, come prepared to dance.

Also, Saturday will be like this past week, and there may be some down time. So, please bring something quiet to do to keep you occupied until it's your turn.

Sunday
I want to encourage everyone for another cast bonding event. Troy McDaniel (Grinch/Yertle the Turtle) is a pastor at Second Baptist that meets at the Berry Center (where we will be performing Seussical). They are having an event called Double Day, where they are asking everyone to bring a friend. How awesome would it be if the entire Seussical cast showed up to worship and fellowship together? I would like to encourage everyone to come. I'm sure that we can arrange car pools if needed.

Reminder, Off Book day is just a little over a week away.

Great Rehearsal today

Everyone did so well today--I know it was a hard situation, but thanks for hanging in there. We really need you all to stay quiet when we are transitioning--it is very important. Parents, please talk to your kids about this, and Adults, please talk to yourselves about this!

While we're on the subject--a shout out to David:
WOW!!!!!! David Porras has an amazing choreographical mind and the
patience of a saint! Dealing with 60 people, mostly kids, for four hours with tricky choreography in a not-quite-large-enough space, and keeping your cool (almost—but they deserved
it :) throughout—you blew us all away, David! We are so excited you are our choreographer!

Note--There will be no bare feet allowed onstage when we are performing, so be sure you have appropriate shoes (jazz or character shoes, probably).

In case you need to know:
The dates for Natalie as JoJo-- 2/25, 3/3, 3/4 (7pm), 3/10 (3pm), 3/11
The dates for Mitchell as JoJo--2/24, 3/2, 3/4 (3pm), 3/9, 3/10 (8pm)

Updates from Amy

Hey everyone!
Thanks again to the Montgomerys for hosting last night--sounds like it was a ton of fun!

From the Clover Builders--please do not make clovers on your own unless you have received instructions on how to do it. I know we asked everyone to make them, but have found out in the meantime some things that need to be done in order to get them to look right. If we need more, we will probably do them together up at HFAC.

Posters are available for distribution and will be passed out today at rehearsal. Please try to take only as many as you will actually put up somewhere so we are not wasteful.

Josh is offering a $50 Visa Gift Card for the best character analysis from a cast member, so do an awesome job! Not only will it give you a chance at the prize, but it will also help make this amazing show even better!

See you all at today's rehearsal!
Amy

Help with set

From Teri, our set designer:

On Thursday, I will be working on set from 5pm -
10pm, and I would appreciate any help I can get. I will be working on
jungle trees and the Circus McGurkus sign (tracing, cutting, painting).
On Friday morning beginning about 8:30 am and going all day, I will be
working on building platforms. Bryan Sutton is going to help, and we can
use anyone skilled in construction. Josh is going to try to come for part
of the day. This will be a full day of construction, and probably some
painting. Saturday from 1-5, I will also be working. All three
times, I will make sure I have work available for people of all skill levels.
I would really like every adult cast member or parent to try to help on
one of these three times. We are hoping that with these three days of
hard work, we'll knock out the bulk of the set.

Seussical Ticket Sales!

We need your help. We give cast members the ability to offer a significant discount to their family and friends. We ask each cast member to sell at least 10 tickets to help build momentum for the show. We have good news and opportunities. The good news is that two cast families have sold 125 tickets - an amazing average of 62.5 tickets per family. The opportunity is we have 56 cast members who have not turned in any ticket sales.

You don't have to turn in all of your ticket sales at once. Please turn in the tickets that you have sold. The sooner you turn in your tickets sales the better seats that your friends and family get.

We have created a Facebook event http://www.facebook.com/events/338347689516309/?context=create for Seussical. Please share this event with your family, friends, and co-workers and let them know that that adults can save $6 by purchasing a ticket from you.

Thanks for your help!

Book Drive

Dear Seussical Cast,

Each year HFAC chooses a show that supports another community organization. This year we have chosen Seussical! Our plan is to ask our patrons to bring books to the Seussical performances to donate to lower income schools in CFISD for students to take home with them. Many students do not have the benefit of having books in their homes, and this will encourage reading for those kids.

You can participate too, of course! You are welcome to donate new or gently used books to this worthy cause. Thanks!

Amy (On behalf of Bob Clark and HFAC)

Rehearsal Tonight! Thursday, 1/12/12. And other Seuss stuff

My dance captains have requested that we have a voluntary dance rehearsal for all fish and hunches tonight. The problem is space. There isn't any rooms available until 8:00. So, from 8:00 - 9:30 tonight, there will be a voluntary dance rehearsal for all hunches and fish. Again, you do not have to come. But, I would recommend it. I hope you have a wonderful day.

Teri Clark, our Artistic Director, is in charge of set. So, if you have any questions about when you can help or what you can do to help, please let me know so that I can have her get in touch with you.

Lindsay Burns is our AMAZING costumer. She does an amazing job! I am very excited to see the costumes that she has come up with. If you can sew, or know somebody that can, we could use your help with costumes. If you are available and interested, please let me know so that I can have Lindsay contact you.

I am wanting to have some cast movie nights where the entire cast can get together and watch some Seuss movies and have some cast bonding time. I think that this is very important for a close cast and good chemistry on stage. I would host these movie nights myself, but, my appartment would not accomodate a cast of sixty plus family members. So, I would like some family's to volunteer to host some of these cast movie nights. They would be on fridays and saturdays, and you would not be responsible for providing food. The cast will bring food. I just need someone willing to provide the space. And I promise that I will make sure the house is just as clean when we leave as it was when we got there. So, if you have a house large enough to accomodate our cast movie nights, please let me know, and we can get some put on the schedule. Thank you!

Volunteer Information

Volunteer Information

Q: What time do I need to be at the Berry Center?
A: At least 1 hour prior to performance.

Q: What do I wear?
A: A big smile! Pants or skirt, nice shirt, shoes. A name badge will be provided.

Q: What can I NOT wear?
A: Jeans, t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops or tennis shoes. You are representing HFAC. First impressions do matter.

Q: What are my job responsibilities?
A: Ushers- (Outside in lobby)
· Man doors before 2:30/7:30 to keep guests from entering early.
· Open doors only after OK from House Manager(Carla Conover). Sometimes
there are handicapped/special guests that need to be seated first, and stage
managers/directors don’t know about it.
· Greet at doors, hand out programs. No need to pull stubs. Direct guests to their correct
side of the theater. (Lower numbered seats on left, higher numbers on right.)
· Send any patron that cannot climb stairs to the box office where there is a side entrance.
· Remind guests to not bring food or water into theater before show and during intermission. (Bottled water may be closed and kept inside a purse, but may not be drunk during the show.)
· One usher will need to stand at hallway door at intermission to make sure food/drinks are not brought inside.
· One usher will need to stand at the main door at intermission as well.

Ushers (Inside theater)
Help guests find their seats - (late –comers may not pass over other guests- seat them in the back or aisle seats.) They can move down after intermission.
Make sure guests are in the correct seat.
Assist any wheelchair/walker patrons. Walkers may be placed in the side entrance.
After show- check theater for trash, programs, etc.
Sell concessions before house is open and during intermission

Concessions/Merchandise-
· Set up- ice in coolers, put out candy.
· Sell before show and during intermission.
Drinks/snacks are $1.
· Clean up, box up merchandise.
· Count $ after show. Use accounting sheet in cash box.

Dressing Room Monitors
· Supervise conference room dressing rooms. Actors need to be relatively quiet and ready for their cue.
· Actors may need to be reminded about picking up costumes/street clothes. .
· Assist young actors to rest rooms. Make sure they come back to conf. rooms. They may not hang out backstage or in main dressing rooms.
· Show respect to all actors regardless of age. Please do not raise your voice or scold. We do not want anyone upset right before they go on stage. Please inform the director or stage manager if there is a behavior problem.
· Let Carla know when you would like to use a comp ticket for another performance.

Q: Where do I sit to see the show?
A: We will rope off some seats on the back row for our volunteers. Please take the inner seats first and leave the outside to ushers that need to assist late-comers. Please do not take an “empty” seat on the end of an aisle as we often have late comers, and they will need to sit there.

Q: I already have reserved seats for the date I am volunteering. May I use my comp ticket another
night?
A: Your comp ticket is for the night of service only. (Except dressing room monitors)
Note: It is difficult to get to the concession stand early at intermission if you are in the middle of a row, so we ask that you help on a night that you will sit in the volunteer section.

Q: May I bring my young child with me?
A: Please make other arrangements for your child if he needs to be supervised by you. It’s too hard to do both well. We ask that only those 16 years and up volunteer to usher/pass out programs. While your 7 year old may look cute, it is not the professional look we are striving for.

Two Shows Added!

Happy New Year!

As we discussed at the initial cast/parents meeting we were planning to add two performances. It’s now official! We have added the following two performances:

Sunday, March 4 at 7 PM
Saturday, March 10 at 8 PM.

I have emailed each of you a revised cast ticket order form with all 10 performances.

Reminder: your costume fees, t-shirt fees, and photo fees were due today. The costume fee of $60 is required for all actors under 18. Adults may waive the costume fee if you provide your own costume and it is approved by our costume designer. Most adults find that it’s easier for HFAC to provide the costumes than to try to chase them down. The t-shirts and cast photos are optional. If you want one or both, the t-shirt fee is $10 and the cast photo fee is $5. So the amount that most actors are paying is $75.

If you have not paid, please come a few minutes early tomorrow and give your check payable to HFAC to Amy Cook, the Seussical stage manager. If you are running late for a rehearsal please contact Amy at 832-248-8053.

It was great seeing all of you this evening!

Bob

Rehearsal on Monday, 1/2/12

Apparently, there's been some confusion. So to clarify, everyone is called tonight at 7:00.

Rehearsal this week

My video did not say what all rehearsals would be like this week. I just mentioned what David would be doing.

While David is working on Choreograhy, I will be blocking scenes and Debbie will be woring on music. So, This will be a busy week for EVERYONE!

On Monday, while David is choreographing the Wickershams, Debbie will be working with the Bird Girls, Mayzie, and Gertrude. And I will be working with everyone else.

See you all Monday!
