Volunteer Information

Volunteer Information

Q: What time do I need to be at the Berry Center?
A: At least 1 hour prior to performance.

Q: What do I wear?
A: A big smile! Pants or skirt, nice shirt, shoes. A name badge will be provided.

Q: What can I NOT wear?
A: Jeans, t-shirts, shorts, flip-flops or tennis shoes. You are representing HFAC. First impressions do matter.

Q: What are my job responsibilities?
A: Ushers- (Outside in lobby)
· Man doors before 2:30/7:30 to keep guests from entering early.
· Open doors only after OK from House Manager(Carla Conover). Sometimes
there are handicapped/special guests that need to be seated first, and stage
managers/directors don’t know about it.
· Greet at doors, hand out programs. No need to pull stubs. Direct guests to their correct
side of the theater. (Lower numbered seats on left, higher numbers on right.)
· Send any patron that cannot climb stairs to the box office where there is a side entrance.
· Remind guests to not bring food or water into theater before show and during intermission. (Bottled water may be closed and kept inside a purse, but may not be drunk during the show.)
· One usher will need to stand at hallway door at intermission to make sure food/drinks are not brought inside.
· One usher will need to stand at the main door at intermission as well.

Ushers (Inside theater)
Help guests find their seats - (late –comers may not pass over other guests- seat them in the back or aisle seats.) They can move down after intermission.
Make sure guests are in the correct seat.
Assist any wheelchair/walker patrons. Walkers may be placed in the side entrance.
After show- check theater for trash, programs, etc.
Sell concessions before house is open and during intermission

Concessions/Merchandise-
· Set up- ice in coolers, put out candy.
· Sell before show and during intermission.
Drinks/snacks are $1.
· Clean up, box up merchandise.
· Count $ after show. Use accounting sheet in cash box.

Dressing Room Monitors
· Supervise conference room dressing rooms. Actors need to be relatively quiet and ready for their cue.
· Actors may need to be reminded about picking up costumes/street clothes. .
· Assist young actors to rest rooms. Make sure they come back to conf. rooms. They may not hang out backstage or in main dressing rooms.
· Show respect to all actors regardless of age. Please do not raise your voice or scold. We do not want anyone upset right before they go on stage. Please inform the director or stage manager if there is a behavior problem.
· Let Carla know when you would like to use a comp ticket for another performance.

Q: Where do I sit to see the show?
A: We will rope off some seats on the back row for our volunteers. Please take the inner seats first and leave the outside to ushers that need to assist late-comers. Please do not take an “empty” seat on the end of an aisle as we often have late comers, and they will need to sit there.

Q: I already have reserved seats for the date I am volunteering. May I use my comp ticket another
night?
A: Your comp ticket is for the night of service only. (Except dressing room monitors)
Note: It is difficult to get to the concession stand early at intermission if you are in the middle of a row, so we ask that you help on a night that you will sit in the volunteer section.

Q: May I bring my young child with me?
A: Please make other arrangements for your child if he needs to be supervised by you. It’s too hard to do both well. We ask that only those 16 years and up volunteer to usher/pass out programs. While your 7 year old may look cute, it is not the professional look we are striving for.
